What Is EDDM?

EDDM stands for Every Door Direct Mail - a USPS program that lets you send mail to every address on selected postal carrier routes. No mailing list to buy. No addresses to process. You pick the neighborhoods, and USPS delivers to every door.

At around $0.26 per piece in postage, EDDM is the cheapest way to do direct mail. A typical EDDM campaign reaches 200-800 households per carrier route. You select the carrier routes you want, and USPS delivers to every household on those routes.

EDDM works best for businesses that serve a local area: restaurants, dental offices, HVAC companies, real estate agents, political campaigns. If your customers are within a drivable radius, EDDM gets you in front of every one of them.

It's the most affordable way to do direct mail - postage starts at around $0.26 per piece.

USPS requires EDDM mailpieces to be larger than 6.125 x 11.5 inches OR thicker than 0.25 inches OR rigid (non-bendable). Common EDDM postcard sizes are 6.25x9, 6.25x11, 8.5x11, and 6.5x12 inches. The maximum size is 12x15 inches. All pieces must weigh 3.3 ounces or less.

No - that's the biggest advantage of EDDM. You select carrier routes (neighborhoods) instead of individual addresses. USPS delivers to every door on those routes. This eliminates list rental costs and data processing fees. You can still target specific neighborhoods by selecting individual carrier routes using our free EDDM tool.

After postal drop, EDDM typically delivers within 3-14 business days depending on USPS processing volume. Our production turnaround (printing + mail prep) is 5-7 business days, with 24-48 hour rush available. Total timeline from approved files to in-home delivery is typically 2-3 weeks.

USPS requires a minimum of 200 pieces per carrier route for EDDM Retail, or 200 pieces total for BMEU (Business Mail Entry Unit) submissions. Most carrier routes contain 200-800 addresses, so a single route typically meets the minimum. There is no maximum - we handle EDDM campaigns from 500 to 500,000+ pieces.
